This Phoenix FD for 3Ds Max VFX tutorial covers creating a rotor wash smoke simulation using particle flow as our smoke source and a wind helper to push the particles in the direction of the helicopter blades. We’re using the adaptive grid to expand the simulation area along with the expanding smoke wave, and the opacity is adjusted to create the semi transparent dust look that the sun can shine through. I also go over setting up the Vray Sun, my rendering settings and the exposure control.
