After EmberGen has become an industry-standard tool, used widely mainly in the Games industry and popular among the Unreal, Blender, and C4D community, LiquiGen is changing the game again with detailed liquids that simulate fast on the GPU.
As an Unreal Engine artist, you may need a higher quality liquid than what Niagara Fluids or Fluid Flux can produce. Your only option is to import it from an external software. While there are many choices on the market (such as Flip Fluids in Blender & C4D Fluids), LiquiGen is the only real-time app, allowing you to iterate and get to a finished result in minimal time, without a complex setup process required by apps like Houdini or Maya Bifrost and with minimal simulation time.
As a Blender, Cinema 4D, 3Ds Max, or even Houdini artist – the simulation can be imported as an alembic sequence. This isn’t always ideal, but the speed & time saved by using LiquiGen often justifies the extra step of importing the simulation.
With LiquiGen 1.0 just released a few days ago, I am once again giving you the opportunity to learn a new tool with a head start and demonstrate to your network that you’re staying on the cutting-edge. You might also end up saving yourself HOURS of waiting for simulations to run.
About Your Instructor, Jesse Pitela:
Hi, I’m Jesse and I started RedefineFX in 2018 out of pure frustration of not being able to find the kind of VFX training I was looking for – something concise that shows you the entire process, so you walk away with a finished result, that you can immediately use to attract better career opportunities.

Currently only Unreal Engine import & rendering (for both liquid mesh and whitewater particles) is covered.
It is possible to import LiquiGen simulations into C4D, Blender, Maya, Max, and Houdini as Alembic sequences. Alembic export is straightforward & covered in the course. LiquiGen Immersion in primarily a standalone LiquiGen course that you can follow irrespective of your primary 3D app.

The main advantage of LiquiGen is the speed at which you get to make changes and reach a finished result. Running water sims traditionally takes hours in other plugins or takes months to learn (Houdini). As for Niagara Fluids – while amazing, the liquid quality is superior in LiquiGen (and therefore better for Cinematics) – but it requires an Alembic, Flipbook, or VAT import. So it’s a trade-off and depends on your particular project needs.
The entire course is recorded in LiquiGen 1.0 pre-release. If there are any notable changes in 1.0 official, I will address them in an additional lessons.
Generally No. Project files are not included in my courses as students are encouraged to follow the lessons and create their own results. However, I have included a few project files throughout the course, and for some of the bonus lessons, to help you along and let you see my setup.
Yes. English, Spanish, Japanese and Korean subtitles are currently available for the entire course.
No. We will not be optimizing the simulations in any way to improve their performance in real games. We will be setting up the VFX as if they’re purely meant for cinematics. I will show how to create flipbooks out of the volume sims, that can be used in games, however we will not be setting up any flipbook-based VFX in this course. Our goal here is simply to make the simulations look as good as possible inside LiquiGen.
I recommend a 2070 RTX as a minimum to have a good time using LiquiGen. The more VRAM your GPU has, the better. The simulations run 100% on the GPU.
I usually showcase the simulations inside of a simple environment for greater visual impact – these are often just a few Quixel Megascans assets copied around a few times to create a rock wall, or an ice cliff. I will show you how to import these assets, but we will not spend any time re-creating these environments, and will stay focused on just the VFX.
Absolutely. These simulations are not limited to cinematics for games. Whichever sector of CG industry you’re in, you can enhance your projects with liquid simulations.
It’s very possible that your place of employment will cover an educational expense, such as this course, if it directly relates to your job duties. It sure doesn’t hurt to ask.
This is a completely self-paced online course. I’ve made the lessons bite-sized so you can make progress every day without feeling overwhelmed.
